A Hybrid, Project-Based Microschool for Plainfield & Naperville Families
Pathfinder Forge Studio uses a hybrid microschool model designed to blend strong academics with hands-on, real-world learning. Our program combines in-person studio days, guided home learning, and project-based instruction aligned to core academic skills in math, reading, writing, science, and social studies.
Families in the Plainfield and Naperville area choose Pathfinder Forge Studio for a learning experience that offers both structure and flexibility without sacrificing educational quality.
At the heart of Pathfinder Forge Studio is project-based, modeled learning.
Students don’t just receive information — they: Explore questions, Build solutions, Test ideas, Collaborate with peers, Reflect and present their work
Each project integrates: Academic skills, Critical thinking, Communication, Creativity, Life skills
Teachers model strategies, provide mini-lessons, guide practice, and coach students through meaningful challenges so learning is active and purposeful.
Our program is intentionally standards-informed. While we are not a traditional classroom, our projects are mapped to grade/age-level learning progressions for:
Math — number sense, operations, problem solving
Reading — comprehension, vocabulary, analysis
Writing — organization, clarity, revision, presentation
Science — inquiry, experimentation, data analysis
Social Studies — history, civics, geography, economics
Rather than isolating subjects, we embed them into real-world projects so students practice foundational skills while seeing how they connect beyond a textbook.
Our full microschool model includes four learning days per week:
2 In-Person Studio Days
Hands-on projects, collaboration, modeling, labs, presentations, and life skills.
2 Guided Home Learning Days
Self-paced assignments connected to the same projects with optional drop-in studio support for families who want additional structure.
In-person days typically run 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM at our studio space hosted at Valhallan Plainfield, serving families throughout Plainfield and Naperville.
A typical in-person studio day includes:
Morning meeting & goal setting
Academic mini-lessons
Project work sessions
Movement and brain breaks
Collaboration time
Life skills labs
Reflection and sharing
This structure allows students to focus deeply while also staying active, social, and engaged.
Pathfinder Forge Studio operates on 6–8 week project cycles followed by: Exploration weeks, Remote learning options, Travel flexibility, Reflection and portfolio building
This rhythm allows families to balance consistency with freedom while keeping learning connected and meaningful.
Students learn:

Some labs occur in real environments, such as cooking days hosted in a home-style kitchen, helping students connect learning to daily life.
